When the Cricket Club folded in 1995, cricket in Eydon was kept alive by the Eydon Occasionals, who played a series of friendly matches against anyone willing to play them.
Getting a team up could also be difficult and a wide range of ages, abilities or even genders could be seen out on the field. This group here was typical, with several faces that still look familiar. From the back left we have Neil Stewart, Richard Jeyes, Charlie Lamb, Patrick Mildren, Andy Brown, Don Rogers and Steve May. In front we have Martyn Fletcher, Jenny Furlong, Kate Hawes, John Grindlay and Christopher Hill. Kate came from a good Eydon Cricket background, being daughter of Jack Hawes - for 20 years the Chairman of the club - and sister of Jim, who also took all 10 wickets at match against Syresham in 1977. Kate is reputedly the only lady registered with the South Northants League.
